Depth from relative normal flows

چکیده

Abstrlet--Most of the depth from image flow algorithms has to rely on either good initial guesses, or some assumptions about the object surfaces to achieve solutions that agree with the physical world. Waxman and Sinha point out that those restrictions can be relaxed if depth is computed from a relative image flow field. Since image flow determination is relatively much more difficult than normal flow determination, it is of interest to develop an algorithm to recover depth from normal flows. In this paper, we have shown that similar results can be obtained from relative normal flow fields as from relative image flow fields. We have implemented a normal flow estimation algorithm, and applied our algorithm to recover depth from intensity images.

The deflection of a baroclinic jet by a wall in a rotating fluid

The momentum integral of a baroclinic jet of fluid in a rotating frame determines the relative size of two jets which are produced when the jet is split by a wall. Owing to lateral variation of velocity and depth of the jet, the percentage of fluid which goes to the right or left differs from that of the non-rotating jet, which is generally assumed to have no shew-. For a northern hemisphere je...

Sediment Delivery Ratio of Single Flood Events and the Influencing Factors in a Headwater Basin of the Chinese Loess Plateau

Little is known about the sediment delivery of single flood events although it has been well known that the sediment delivery ratio at the inter-annual time scale is close to 1 in the Chinese Loess Plateau. This study examined the sediment delivery of single flood events and the influencing factors in a headwater basin of the Loess Plateau, where hyperconcentrated flows are dominant. Data obser...

Experimental Investigation of Friction Coefficient in Ribleted Pipes and the Effect of Fine Particles

The effect of fine particles on turbulence damping and reduction of flow friction coefficient in ribleted pipes, have been investigated experimentally. Tests have been conducted in a ribleted pipe with hydraulic diameter of 18.6 mm, and 20 stream wise riblets of 1.8 mm depth, along the pipe. Flows of water tap with Reynolds number from 5000 to 30000 were compared with flows containing silt-clay...

Sensor Motion and Relative Depth From Difference Fields of Optic Flows

This paper develops a simple and robust procedure for recovering sensor motion parameters from image sequences induced by unconstrained sensor motion relative to a stationary environment. Difference vectors of optic flows approximate the orientations of the translational field lines in image areas in which there is depth variance between the corresponding environmental points and sufficient ang...

Closure relations for shallow granular flows from particle simulations

The discrete particle method (DPM) is used to model granular flows down an inclined chute with varying basal roughness, thickness and inclination. We observe three major regimes: arresting flows, steady uniform flows and accelerating flows. For flows over a smooth base, other (quasi-steady) regimes are observed: for small inclinations the flow can be highly energetic and strongly layered in dep...
